India-Netherlands Sign MoU to Strengthen Trade and Investment Cooperation

On 19 December 2025, an MoU was signed between India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Netherlands' Ministry of Foreign Affairs to enhance bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation. The agreement establishes the India-Netherlands Joint Trade and Investment Committee (JTIC) as a formal mechanism for regular engagement. JTIC will review bilateral trade relations, promote two-way investments, and address trade barriers. The committee will meet annually, alternating between India and the Netherlands. It will be co-chaired by India's Additional Secretary of Commerce and the Netherlands' Director General for Foreign Economic Relations. The MoU was announced during Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel's visit and his meeting with India's External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar.[3]

SHANTI Bill 2025 Introduced in Lok Sabha to Overhaul Nuclear Energy Sector

The Centre introduced the Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India (SHANTI) Bill, 2025, in the Lok Sabha. The bill aims to incentivize private sector participation to achieve 100 GW nuclear capacity by 2047 and support Net Zero by 2070. It amends Section 4 of the Patents Act, 1970, to allow patenting of peaceful nuclear energy inventions. The bill institutionalizes the ₹20,000 crore Nuclear Energy Mission for deploying indigenous 220 MW Small Modular Reactors (Bharat SMRs). Government retains control over uranium enrichment, spent fuel reprocessing, and heavy water production.[2]
