India–UAE leaders hold phone conversation on regional security and bilateral ties
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to review regional developments in West Asia and bilateral cooperation.[1][8] The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to promoting regional peace, security and stability, with particular reference to current tensions in the wider region.[1][10] They also discussed ways to further strengthen India–UAE strategic partnership in trade, investment, energy and people-to-people linkages.[1][8] The call comes against the backdrop of India’s growing economic and diaspora presence in the Gulf and recent security concerns in the Red Sea and surrounding maritime areas.[1][10] Both sides noted the importance of upholding navigational rights and freedom of movement, echoing India’s position at the UN Security Council that navigation must not be subject to coercion or unlawful restrictions.[1][10] The conversation is part of ongoing high-level engagement between India and the UAE, following several recent visits and agreements in areas such as digital payments and renewable energy.[8] The reaffirmation of cooperation and coordination underlines the role of India–UAE ties in regional diplomacy and economic connectivity.[1][8]
