Stampede at Kolkata Durga Puja pandal kills 17

A crowd surge at the Chorbagan Sarbojonin Durga Puja pandal in north Kolkata killed 17 people and injured 25 others. The incident occurred on Saturday evening amid heavy rain and lightning. Children were among those reported dead. One injured person was in critical condition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased person. India continues Russian oil imports after temporary US waiver

India is expected to keep Russian crude-oil imports near current levels after a temporary US waiver. India imported about 1.82 million barrels per day of Russian crude in September. October imports were estimated at approximately 1.8–1.9 million barrels per day. The waiver provided temporary relief from threatened sanctions and additional tariffs. Analysts warned that the policy did not remove long-term uncertainty. The development has implications for India’s energy security, trade diplomacy and external-sector management.[6]
