India–US trade deal negotiations near conclusion
India and the United States are reportedly close to finalising a bilateral trade agreement.[2][3] US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar discussed trade, energy and defence cooperation in Mumbai.[2][5] Rubio described the agreement as being very close, with only a small number of issues remaining.[2] Differences reportedly include US tariff concerns and India’s purchase of Russian oil.[2] The proposed agreement is expected to differ substantially from earlier trade arrangements.[4] The negotiations are significant for India’s export prospects and strategic ties with Washington.
