RBI announces major liquidity measures in 5th Bi-monthly Monetary Policy FY26
The Reserve Bank of India conducted the 58th and 5th Bi-monthly Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting for FY 2025–26 from 3–5 December 2025, chaired by Governor Sanjay Malhotra.[1] The MPC decided key rates and took additional steps to address liquidity conditions in the banking system.[1] RBI announced Open Market Operation (OMO) purchases of ₹1 lakh crore in December 2025 to inject durable liquidity through buying government securities.[1] It also announced a 3‑year USD/INR buy–sell swap of $5 billion to further augment liquidity and stabilise the forex market.[1] OMOs are a principal monetary policy tool used to manage liquidity by buying/selling G-Secs in the open market.[1] The decisions follow concerns over tight liquidity amid global uncertainties and domestic credit growth.[1] The measures aim to ensure adequate credit flow, support growth, and maintain financial stability.[1]
